WEEK 5 MEDIA BLOG FORUM

TOPIC 1: FIRST AMENDMENT, COPYRIGHT AND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION After seeing the documentary "RiP! A Remix Manifesto," the most interesting take away as it relates the freedom of expression is how limiting freedom of expression can be if you are using other peoples ideas to express yourself. It was interesting to see how Girl Talk was considered a criminal for using copy written content to express his art. As it was said in the video, there are no limits to art or expression so why is it that copyrights exist? I'm not an artistic person so I can't relate on a personal level with Girl Talk about the way he chooses to express himself through mash ups but I certainly understand it. My go to way of expression is through writing and even in this form I have a way to sort of by pass any violation of laws if I choose to use another writers words by siting my sources and giving credit where it's due. I think other forms of media like music should follow this sort of phil

Blog Project: Grown-ish

Image
Grownish is a sitcom that airs on the TV network Freeform Tuesdays at 8pm EST. The sitcom is a spinoff from ABC's show Blackish in which we follow the daughter (Zoey) of the main character as she goes off to college and starts experiencing growing in to adulthood through her college experience . There seems to be no typecast in the show however the producers made a point in having a diverse grou p of characters to develop through out the season. Grownish stars Yara Shahidi (Zoey Johnson), Trevor Jackson (Aaron Jackson), Francia Raisa (Ana Torres) Emily Arlook (Naomi Segal), Jordan Buhat (Vivek Shah), Luka Sabbat (Luca Hall), Chloe Bailey (Jazz Forster) and Halle Bailey (Sky Forster).  Thanks to the shows popularity and the episode I will be analyzing for this project, Yara Shaidi actually got to star in Drakes most recent music video "Nice for What" . Trevor Jackson starred in this summers recently released film Superfly by Director X and has a music career o

Advertising & Persuasive Techniques

ADVERTISING/PR -- I choose to research a cosmetics line called "The Crayon Case", the cosmetic line targets amateur makeup artists and make up contours. The company was established by CEO Supa in 2017 after she established a large social media following resulting in entrepreneurship opportunities such as The Crayon Case. The crayon Case has a website of its own and within it links to their YouTube account. Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. The Crayon Case started as a small business and its success in huge part by it's founder and CEO Raynell "Supa" Stewart. The Crayon Case uses each social media platform effectively but differently as well. In Facebook you see customers interacting with one another and speaking about the products as well as sharing the results of the make up pallets and what they were able to create with it. The same is applied to Twitter but you also see a little more advertising and marketing as well as small make up tutorials. I thin

Social Media & The Internet

In the past year or so I've stayed away from social media platforms like Facebook and Snapchat but Instagram is pretty much the only social media platform that keeps bring me back to its grasp. I've actually come to the realization that it might be because I've always been a visual person and Instagram is all about visual. One of the organizations I follow is CNN because I like to keep updated on domestic and international news. I also follow Michelle Obama and an account called "powerofpositivity". I follow Michelle Obama not just because she is a former first lady but because I admire her as a woman and all that she has accomplished during her life as well as the service she has provided to her country. She radiates positivity and encouragement to young women all over the world to accomplish their dreams and her marriage to Barack Obama is one that I think most of us marvel at. After I went on my social media hiatus and tried to go back to it I noticed how soc
